Health claim in Thailand for bifidogenic effect chicory root fiber

The Thai FDA approved a health claim for the effect of Sensus’ chicory root fiber to increase bifidobacteria in the intestine. The application with supporting scientific evidence was provided by Sensus in cooperation with its Business Partner DKSH Thailand.

Sensus produces the innovative ingredients chicory inulin and chicory oligofructose which are dietary fibers that besides being effective fat and sugar replacers, contribute to a healthy intestinal microbiome. Notably they significantly increase the beneficial microbes bifidobacteria in the intestinal tract which underlies their prebiotic effects such as digestive health.

This new health claim based on chicory root fiber may be formulated on the packaging according to the Thai FDA guideline: Inulin / Fructo-oligosaccharide / Oligofructose / Short-chain inulin from chicory helps to increase bifidobacteria in the intestine. “As there are only a few health claims approved in Thailand we are extremely pleased with the approval of the health claim for Sensus chicory root fiber,” Songsin Sungkhawaetai, General Manager Food & Beverage at DKSH Thailand.

The health claim applies exclusively to Sensus Frutafit^® inulin and Frutalose^® fructo-oligosaccharides from chicory roots for various applications, including dairy, soy-based products, breakfast cereal, beverages without caffeine, food supplements, amongst others. The exclusivity of the claim supports the ingredient declaration as Frutafit^® inulin and Frutalose^® fructo-oligosaccharides on the product labelling and all advertising materials.
